Montepulciano (mon-tae-pul-chee-AH-noh) is a transplant from southern Italy that produces well-rounded, smooth wines of deep color. The growing conditions of the High Plains are perfect for this grape, which only enhances Texas's reputation as the "Mediterranean of North America." Montepulciano is as fun to drink as it is to say.
The 2023 Montepulciano is light in body and delicately red in hue. It greets the senses with oak aromas, violets, and prunes. Flavors of cranberry, red plum, and a smoky sweetness integrate well with the soft tannins on the finish. It is a rich yet delicate wine that can be enjoyed from the first sip to the last drop.
Pair with alfredo pasta with garlic shrimp, a veggie and pepperoni pizza, or beef brisket with a sweet BBQ sauce.
